The coming of consumer societyOT, March 13, 2012 11:57 IST Okhla Times Campus Reporter/JMI Karvan-e-Fikr, the Subject Association of Department of Sociology, Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI), is going to organize a two-day students’ seminar on “the Coming of Consumer Society” at the Sociology Academic Fair, Karvan-e-Fikr 2011-12 which is meant to bring together the various themes of consumer society which may be philosophical, abstract and theoretical. The seminar is scheduled to be held on March 14 & 15, 2012 in the Tagore Hall, Dayar-I Mir Taqi Mir, Administrative Block, JMI. The themes of the seminar are theorizing consumption by engaging in classic and contemporary intellectual debates, the role of media, the popular culture and the middle classes, symbolic economies with emphasis on globalization, new world economic order, spaces of consumption and their impact on cities, gender and consumption; body and sexuality and role of public policies such as economic reforms. The papers submitted by the students and selected by an expert panel will be presented in the seminar.
Knowledge management and HRM The national seminar aims to identify the issues and challenging problems posed by knowledge management for HRM in business and organizations which will help in creating framework and adopting measures to deal with adverse conditions so that one can maintain competitive advantage, according to university release. It will also identify future directions of research. Closure collaboration between academia and industries will provide effective way of handling the issues and challenges of knowledge management and HRM, claimed the media coordinator.
