Photographs to tell about North East armed conflict

The MF Husain Art Gallery located on Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) campus is going to host an exhibition entitled Unheard Voices which will feature the works of Kausiki Sarma from August 1 to 6, 2011. To be inaugurated at 3 PM on August 1 by Vice Chancellor Najeeb Jung, the photographs focus on women victims of armed conflict in Assam and Nagaland and are part of a year-long study on the impact of armed conflict in Assam and Nagaland conducted by the Centre for North East Studies and Policy Research in 2009-2010 and supported by a grant from the Heinrich Boll Foundation of Germany.

The photographs have been shot across the three districts of Kokrajhar, Dhemaji and Sibsagar in Assam and three districts in Nagaland namely, Peren, Kohima and Tuensang. Kausiki, who was born and brought up in Assam, completed her Bachelors in Statistics and Masters in Operational Research from the University of Delhi. For the last four years, she has been traveling all over the North-East and photographing. Also, she has been researching and documenting issues concerning the region for some time.
