Parents furious at late night interview for girl studentsOT, September 14, 2011 IST Okhla Times Campus Reporter/JMI Some parents were upset with Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) authorities for conducting late night interview of candidates for girl hostels. On September 12, the interview went on till 11 PM at Begum Ali Kidwai Hostel, according to a source. A parent tells OKHLA TIMES over phone: "The interview went on until 11 PM. The authorities should have ended the interview earlier. This only shows that they don't care about students and parents. Many people who came from far places faced harassment."
Moreover, the authorities had also instructed girl students interested in getting seats in hostels to turn up with at least one grown up family member for the interview. Those who came alone were not entertained, claims a source.
For many parents it was a long day. A girl student's brother says on the condition of anonymity: "It turned out to be a long and stressful day for me. I returned from office at 7 PM and after that I rushed to the university with my sister. I thought that the interview would be over by 9 PM, but it went on till 11 PM. My day has been ruined."
Some parents, upset with the development, say had the interview been held at day time such problems would have not taken place. Besides, interview could have been scheduled for another day, says a parent. But the administration is least bothered about such things.
Authorities could not be reached for comment.
