Last date for Physiotherapy at Jamia draws near

The last date for receiving completed application forms for Bachelor of Physiotherapy (B.P.T.) of four and a half year duration (4 years course work followed by 6 months internship) is June 11, 2011 and the entrance test will be held on June 17, 2011 at Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI). With an intake of 40 students, the eligibility for BPT is 50 per cent marks in physics, chemistry and biology at intermediate level.  The last date for Master in Physiotherapy (MPT-Sports) of two years duration with an intake capacity of 10 students is also the same. The eligibility for MPT is 50% marks in BPT.

The Centre for Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Sciences, JMI, attends to the vital need of providing professionally qualified physiotherapists, claimed University officials. The centre endeavors to prepare highly skilled professionals and efficient physiotherapists with thorough knowledge of theoretical and practical aspects, in the light of recent developments in health care and bio-medical sciences, according to the media coordinator.

Besides, graduate and post graduate level courses, the centre had also introduced a Ph.D. programme in physiotherapy and related fields in 2008 and last session it started a Ph.D. in sports physiotherapy. The eligibility for Ph.D. is 55 per cent in MPT (any specialty). The last date of submission of application form for Ph.D. is July 8.

The centre is equipped with advanced electrotherapy, exercise therapy equipments, basic sciences laboratory and a library. Also, it has successfully operating a physiotherapy clinic, with an average input of 30-40 patients a day. Moreover, the centre conducts visits for students to institutes/hospitals engaged in research and academic activities related to medical sciences, physiotherapy, rehabilitation and allied fields of health care, on regular basis. The centre has highly qualified faculty members in the areas of Neurophysiology, Physiology, Neurochemistry, MPT-Osteomyology, MPT-Cardiopulmonary, MPT-Sports and MPT-Neurology, with two full time Physiotherapists, claimed officials.

There are tremendous employment opportunities for physiotherapy graduates in health care setup, said University Media Coordinator.
