Jamia physicists wow foreign experts at global seminarOT, January 31, 2012 09:00 IST Okhla Times Campus Reporter/JMI Research scholars from central University Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) are grabbing headlines. Recently some four researchers traveled to Coimbatore to attend international conference on advanced material. The physicists impressed some foreign experts who had also turned up at the five-day seminar. A research scholar Md Shahzad Khan gave oral presentation, including 15 minute slide presentation, on hydrogen storage on functionalized carbon nano tube. The 29-year-old Khan, who after completing his MSC in Physics from JMI and doing research, said: “It was a good opportunity for all of us to get exposure. We interacted with foreign delegates for the first time at the seminar. I got to learn how to use technology for further research.” Foreign delegates were all praise of his presentation. Other three scholars to be part of the team that attended the seminar last month included Md Hashmuddin, Sana Zafar and Preeti Singh. Supervisor Dr Md Shahid Khan was also with them to guide them in the right direction. Of late JMI has been doing extremely well in researches. In October last year, a JMI professor’s paper was included in Nobel Prize Committee. One of the research papers by Professor Mohammad Sami at the Centre for Theoretical Physics, JMI, written in collaboration with Edmund J Copeland and Shinji Tsujikawa, was included in the Nobel Prize Committee Document, 2011. The document titled 'Scientific Document on the Nobel Prize in Physics 2011' on 'The Accelerating Universe' was released by the 'Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences' on October 4, 2011. It cites the paper co-authored by Professor Sami. The paper written by him is titled "Dynamics of Dark Energy" which was published in the International Journal of Modern Physics (D15: 1753-1936, 2006). This is the only contribution from India which has been included in the Nobel Prize Committee Document, 2011.
