Earlier in the month of August there were reports in some sections of the media that the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA) Registration of Jamia Millia Islamia along with many other universities had been cancelled.
In this regard, Jamia Millia Islamia had represented to the Ministry of Home Affairs that the university had submitted the returns diligently including giving proof for the same, according to university release.
Moreover, as per the Government of India Gazette Notification dated July 1, 2011, all statutory Bodies having their accounts audited through Comptroller & Auditor General of India are exempt from all provisions of the Foreign Contributions Regulations Act (FCRA).
The Ministry of Home Affairs has since clarified that Jamia is exempt from all provisions of the FCRA and therefore there is no bar on Jamia to receive/spend foreign contributions.
In another press release, the university announced that it would celebrate ‘International Day of the Girl Child.’ The Faculty of Dentistry at Jamia Millia Islamia is going to organize a series of programmes centred around “Girls are Pearls” on September 24 in the open space of the 2nd Floor and Hall of the 5th Floor of Faculty of Dentistry, Jamia Millia Islamia.
On this occasion, the following events will take place: Poster/Collage making competition by students of the Faculty of Dentistry and a Talk by Dr. Bulbul Dhar-James, Director, Sarojini Naidu Centre for Women’s Studies on “Don’t let their lives end before it even begins”.
