Jamia, DU introduce Master degree in Mathematics education under Meta UniversityOT, September 12, 2012 03:41 IST Okhla Times Campus Reporter/JMI As part of the Meta University concept, Jamia Millia Islamia and Delhi University will introduce a joint Master’s Degree in Mathematics Education which was duly approved by the Jamia’s Academic Council last week. The objective of the Master of Mathematics Education is to move away from the conventional pedagogy of teaching mathematics at school level and to include methods of facilitating learning such as storytelling, projects, group work and participative learning, according to university release. Its aim is to impart such knowledge as will facilitate the application of mathematical precepts to real life situations and help in problem solving. It also aims to use technology as a significant aid in learning and to impart knowledge of some basic concepts and principles of the disciplines. In addition, it will establish inter-disciplinarity between mathematics and other subjects from Humanities and the Social Sciences. The eligibility for admission to Master’s Degree in Mathematics Education spread across four semesters (2 years) is a graduate degree in any discipline provided the applicant has done at least two full-fledged papers in Mathematics at the undergraduate level. Both the universities will conduct a jointly devised admission test and will admit 20 students in the first year.
