Jamia alumnus Faiz Ahmad bags prestigious national awardOT, September 28, 2012 09:54 IST Okhla Times Campus Reporter/JMI Faiz Ahmad, a Delhi Doordarshan (DD) crime reporter from Faridabad and Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) alumnus, was awarded the prestigious Mahatma Gandhi Seva Medal for his excellent contribution towards highlighting the plight of elderly through a documentary at a function held in Jammu and Kashmir (Baderwa) Doda district a few days ago. The documentary Ashiana produced by Ahmad depicted the heart-rending story of old parents being abandoned by educated children. The documentary was well appreciated by experts. Ahmad told OKHLA TIMES that he was delighted to bag the award. “I feel proud of this. I got many awards but this was something that I have been waiting for long. I got a letter of appreciation from the Ministry of Information and this certificate will help me in my career,” said the young documentary maker, who completed his MA in Development Communication from the national famed MCRC, JMI, in 2010-11. Earlier, Ahmad, who bagged the Mahatma Gandhi Seva Medal in front of 800 people, had won many awards for his RTI activities. The prestigious award is given every year to people for their excellent contributions to society. Ahmad bagged the award in the media category. This year two people, including Ahmad, were chosen from the award from Uttar Pradesh. Ahmad said the quality education that he received at JMI helped him to excel in his career.
