International conference on Islamic Arts and Architecture

The Faculty of Architecture and Ekistics, Jamia Milia Islamia (JMI), is organizing the 5th International Conference on “Islamic Arts and Architecture” which will be held on the Jamia campus from 11th-13th November, 2011.  The inaugural session will begin at 11.00 AM on November 11, 2011 in Dr. M.A. Ansari Auditorium followed by a keynote address. The objective of this conference is to establish the contemporary relevance of Islamic Arts and Architecture through initiating a process of deliberation and dialogue among universities and institutions across the globe engaged in imparting education in the fields of Islamic architecture and arts, claims media coordinator.

The International Conference of Islamic Arts and Architecture 2011 is conceived as a comprehensive conference with forums, technical sessions, exhibitions, performing arts, heritage visits and workshops which will see a participation of professionals, academicians and artists, according to the university release.

The chief objective of the conference is to explore what Islamic art and architecture mean in today’s world, reinterpreting its role and application in contemporary times and establishing its role in today’s scenario, the release further stated.

Moreover, the conference offers a multitude of avenues for participation in form of forums, technical sessions, exhibitions, heritage visits, performing arts and workshops for the scholars, academicians and professionals taking part in the event.

It will revolve on three sub-themes: a) Islamic Arts and Architecture and the current urban scenario. (b) Islamic Arts and Architecture and the current environmental crisis and (c) Islamic Arts and Architecture and the current economic scenario.
