Independence Day celebrations at Jamia, Okhla

The 66th Independence Day of India was celebrated in Jamia Millia Islamia on Wednesday, August 15, 2012.
 
Traditionally, the Independence Day celebrations are held in the Jamia Millia Islamia School campus which houses some of the oldest structures on campus. It is also an occasion for the entire Jamia biradari to congregate there and celebrate together.
 
The celebrations on the day began at 9 AM with the arrival of the Chief Guest Prof S M Rashid, the Pro-Vice Chancellor of Jamia Millia Islamia.
 
This was followed by the Flag Hoisting Ceremony and the National Anthem.
 
Thereafter, the Chief Guest delivered his speech. Finally, the programme came to an end with the distribution of sweets among the students.

The ID was celebrated with fervour in other parts of Okhla also. In Zakir Nagar, some residents celebrated the day with organizing kite flying. Some 30 youths from different places took turns at kite flying, according to local Congress leader Md Faraz Khan.

He said the events went on till 10:30 AM.

In other parts of the loclality flag was hoisted. In Taimoor Nagar, residents clebrated the day by hoisting the national flag and wishing friends and relatives through SMS and emails. Many resdents flocked social networking site Facebook to celebrate the day.
