Some students of Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) are organizing a literary festival from October 15 to 17 to celebrate the centenary of Saadat Hasan Manto, one of the greatest short story writers of the subcontinent and bicentenary of another great writer Charles Dickens of England.

Saroj Mahananda, advisor of English Literary Association of department of English, JMI, told OKHLA TIMES that as both the writers were humanist and realist we have decided to celebrate the moment by holding a first literary fest on the campus.

“From now onwards we have decided to organize it every year. Manto has been neglected for some time.

"But his popularity is picking up. We need to translate his Urdu works in English so that people can benefit from them,” he said.

One of the organizers and student Aaqib Raza Khan said the lit fest has been named Pick Wick fest.

“Charles Dickens used to write pick wick papers and it is from there that we named the festival. We are expecting it to be a huge hit with more than 200 students going to participate. This is the first literature festival on the campus. All the preparations have been completed,” he said.

To be held in the department of English, the lit fest is going to attract participants from most of the colleges in Delhi. The three-day lit fest will have lectures, quiz, seminars and drama competition.
