Ex-Jamia polytechnic principal Jalaluddin, 77, diesOT, September 28, 2011 IST Okhla Times Campus Reporter/JMI Former principal of Polytechnic, Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI), Jalaluddin, died on September 27 around 10:30 PM at Apollo hospital in New Delhi. He was 77 years old and survived by four girls and two boys. Jalaluddin’s son Yasir Jalal, whose mother died earlier, tells OKHLA TIMES: “He died at 10: 30 PM and doctors confirmed that he suffered from some blood infection. But hospital doctors were unable to treat him. When he suffered from fever we took him to the nearby Holy Family Hospital. Initially, when he took medicine for fever treatment his face swelled. Later on we took him to Apollo hospital when his situation didn’t improve.” A resident of 335 A, Batla House, he says the burial will take place at JMI graveyard (only for the JMI employees) after the zuhur (afternoon) prayer. Senior JMI alumnus and an engineering graduate Ali Arshad says: “In spite of being principal and a powerful person, Jalaluddin never had anything against the students. He always cared for them. During his regime once some students went on hunger strike, there were fear that they would be penalized. But nothing like this happened thanks to Jalaluddin.” A simple man with no air, he was popular not only among the teacher fraternity but also students. Easily accessible, Jalaluddin was a great listener and good administrator. Vishal Mehdi, a former commerce student of JMI, says Jalaluddin was popular in the university. Mehdi, who was travelling in Dehra Dun, says he would be in Delhi to attend the burial. JMI administration termed his death a sad development. A post published in the Jamia Millia Alumni directory mentions: “On behalf of JMI Alumni, we extend our sincere condolences to the family of Janab Jalal Sb, his son Yasir Jalal, Amir Jalal and all the other family members.
