As Jamia Outreach forges ahead 386 women to get artisan IDOT, September 24, 2012 04:47 IST Okhla Times Campus Reporter/JMI The Outreach Programme of Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) keeps organizing programmes from time to time. For the past year it has been working towards trying to facilitate the access of neighborhood home based women workers to different government schemes and programmes. As a part of this initiative, the Outreach Programme had organized a workshop in the University last year which was based on the collaboration between different women’s organizations working in the local area as well as the Northern Region Office of the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), Government of India, New Delhi, according to university release. The purpose of the workshop was to work with the Office of the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts) to get the home based skilled women workers residing in Jamia neighbourhood and other settlements of Delhi Artisan Identity Cards. The University has been able to get the Office of the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), New Delhi to issue over 386 Artisan Identity Cards for these women. The Artisan Identity Card issued by the Handicrafts Department, Government of India, will be distributed to these women workers in a function which is scheduled to be held on September 26 at 3 PM in the Faculty of Engineering Auditorium. The programme will be chaired by Mr. Najeeb Jung, Vice-Chancellor, JMI. Prof. S.M.Rashid, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, JMI along with other senior faculty members of the University will also be present, claimed the release.
