3 detained for illegally staying at Jamia HostelOT, February 5, 2012 18:05 IST Okhla Times Campus Reporter/JMI Three persons were handed over to the police by the authorities of Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) for illegally staying at the University's hostel on February 3. And disciplinary proceedings have been initiated against the students and the residents for harbouring them as per university rules, according to media coordinator Simi Malhotra.. The unwanted people were apprehended following a surprise check conducted by the provost and proctor of JMI at the Allama Iqbal hostel, Hall of Boys’ Residence, at around 12:45 AM on February 3. During the raid, seven unauthorized people were found staying illegally with the residents in the hostel in violation of the hostel guidelines/university rules & regulations, claimed an university official. On further probe it was found that three of them were complete outsiders, not even part of the university system, claimed university officials. It was not one off check. On and off, university officials raid hostels to find out whether illegal persons are not staying. Besides, such raids are a routine exercise conducted by the university to ensure that no unwanted elements are staying illegally on campus.
