Jauhar gate in Batla House, Captain shaheed Javed Saifi gate in Zakir Nagar ready, await inauguration

The Jauhar gate appears to be ready in Batla House and now it only awaits inauguration. It was a few days ago when residents had pointed out that poles were erected on both sides of the road at the entrance of Batla House.

OT.COM was first to report about it. And the development was further confirmed when councillor Shoeb Danish wrote about the gate in his timeline.

“There are two gates coming up in the locality. One in Batla House and the other one in Zakir Nagar; Batla House one is to be named after Maulana Jauhar and Zakir Nagar after Shaheed Captain Javed Ali Saifi, who laid down his life defending his country August 22, 2000. The martyr is a Jamia alumnus. Born on August 1, 1968, in Rora village of Bulandshahar, he did Civil Engineering from Jamia. The files have gone to officials. There are some technical hitches and once they are cleared the gate will inaugurated soon,” the councillor told OT.COM.

The gate is to come up at the entrance of the Batla House and it would be named after Jauhar, one of the founders of Jamia Millia Islamia, it has been reported.

Danish is a Jamia alumnus. And he is to test his luck for the third this time around. Though Congress is yet to announce its candidate from this area, it is understood that Shoeb, who has been councillor for the last two terms, is a strong contender.

The AAP has already has announced its candidate from this ward. Mahmood Ahmed is to stand against Shoeb and it would be interesting to see how the contest shapes up.

For long this ward is known to be citadel of the Congress. However, two years ago in the Assembly election, AAP had won overwhelmingly from Okhla. Will it be able to repeat its performance in the coming MCD poll or will find it difficult to breach Congress fort?

Javed belonged to Unit 35 of Madras Regiment of Indian Army.
