Jamia’s media cell misses press release deadline

The job of a media cell is to report events on time and with digital platforms mushrooming there is intense pressure on people working in the media cell to report events in real-time.

However, this is not the case with Jamia Millia Islamia’s media cell.

The case in point is an event held in Jamia on January 12 and the releas being issued by the media cell on January 16.

It was on January 12 when Prof. Anisur Rahman, Director, UGC-HRDC, Jamia, posted on his timeline photos and small note on the event.

“Today the UGC- HRDC had organised the interaction programme at the end of the third Semester MA programme in Kashmir and South Asian Studies going on at the UGC HRDC, Jamia in collaboration with UMIKS, University of Kashmir. Prof Talat Ahmad, vice Chancellor, JMI, Madame France Marquet, Principal Trustee, South Asia Foundation, Prof Veena Sikri, Former Ambassador to Bangladesh, Dr Syeda Hameed, former Member, Planning Commission, Prabhaker Menon, CEO, South Asia Foundation, including several Jamia faculty members graced the occasion and participated in the interaction programme.” The post was well received getting 154 likes and several comments.

Jamia’s media cell is headed by universally well-known media personality Professor Iftekhar Ahmed, Director, AJK MCRC.

Besides, the university has roped in another globally-acclaimed journalist M Shakil Ahmed, ex-PTI staff.

Both these men are from Bihar.

All told, media icon Dr Saima Saeed, who also enlightens students at Jamia’s Centre for Culture, Media and Governance, is Hony Deputy Media Coordinator.
