Jamia Millia Islamia’s prestigious AJ Kidwai Mass Communication Research Centre (MCRC) has been ranked number one Mass Communication institute in India.
Outlook magazine that ran survey of Top Mass Comm Colleges in 2017 has ranked MCRC at the top followed by Symbiosis Pune and Xavier Mumbai.
AJKMCRC again ranked no. 1 Mass Communication Institute by Outlook Magazine.
AJ KMCRC got 176.0 points in Academic Excellence with second ranked Symbiosis Institute of Media and Communication Pune getting 169.
Currently, Dr Iftekhar Ahmed is the director of MCRC. The centre is known to churn out India’s leading media personalities over the years with one of its former student Shah Rukh Khan ruling the Bollywood.
While felicitating two young filmmakers, Hardik Mehta and Photographer Anshul Mehrotra – two alumni of Jamia’s AJK MCRC a few months ago, Vice-Chancellor Professor Talat Ahmad had told the students that the Centre is one of the best in the world in the field of Media Education and asked them to take full advantage of the facilities available there.
Professor Iftikhar said the Centre has set a benchmark in the field of media education in the world and added that media has become highly commercialised and needs thinkers who are futuristic.
He had said MCRC with its socialist tradition endeavors to attain liberty, equality and fraternity for the entire society through its alumni, some of who are already working towards this goal.
He especially mentioned the contributions made by documentary filmmakers Amar Kanwar and Saba Dewan, television journalists like Barkha Datt, Maria Shakil and Suddhabrata Sengupta of ‘Raqs Media Collective’ and Sanjay Joshi who organises political film festivals at Gorakhpur.
Over 150 students have taken admission in the seven P.G. courses run by the centre. The courses are – M.A. Mass Communication, M.A. Convergent Journalism, M.A. Development Communication, M.A. Visual Effect & Animation, P.G. Diploma in Still Photography, P.G. Diploma in Acting and P.G. Diploma in Broadcast Technology.
