After failing to get ticket from a party, Shaheen Bagh resident Tahir Ali has decided to contest as independent candidate from ward number 102S Abul Fazal Enclave. To woo voters, he has started door-to-door campaign and is confident to sail through.
“I was with the SP for the last six years. And I was one of the applicants to get ticket. After not getting ticket, I resigned from the party to contest as independent, getting balti symbol. The purpose to contest is to bring about changes in the locality. As you all know that the area lacks in basic facilities and if voted to power I will address these issues,” he said.
The MCD poll 2017 is to be held on April 23. From Okhla’s ward number 102S, twenty two people are in the race with some contesting as independent. In Delhi, AAP is trying its best to take power from the BJP that has ruled the civic agencies over years. Moreover, the poll is litmus test for the AAP that was jolted after its not so good performance in Punjab, Goa and a defeat in Rajouri Garden bypoll.
To beat anti-incumbency, the BJP has not given tickets to sitting councilors. The Congress too is trying to bounce back.
