Furious Jamia students plan all-night protest on campus

Students gathered outside the Proctor’s office of Jamia Millia Islamia disbursed a few hours ago. But according to student sources the protest is yet over.

Till filing this report at 12.10 some students were on the campus mulling ways how to carry ahead their protest peacefully with high impact.

A DISSC member said they are planning to stay put on the campus whole night. Some students have decided to carry the protest ahead and not to go to their hostels, said the student on condition of anonymity, adding that they will sleep on the campus.

The students alleged that the security staff known as bulls assaulted them on the campus when they were holding a cultural programme on the campus in front of the central canteen an allegation that a senior university official has denied.

It has been reported that the students had sought permission from the authorities to hold the event in front of the central canteen but were denied. However, some students were adamant to hold the event. A student source said it was then that the administration people landed on the spot on Thursday and asked them move to other spot.

The students declined to move leading to a situation in which students have claimed that they were assaulted with their mike being taken away.

A senior university official, not authorised to talk to the media, dismissed the students’ claim and said actually the security guards were at the receiving end.

Calls made to Proctor Haroon Sajjad went unattended. Full version of the university is awaited as it is received it will be updated.
