Why are Jamia students picketing outside proctor’s office?

Photos have surfaced from Jamia Millia Islamia of students picketing outside the Proctor’s office, seeking justice.

A student on the condition of anonymity said: “Today in Jamia a student organisation DISSC was having a musical event when the proctorial staff attacked the students and manhandled female students.”

However, a senior university official, not authorised to talk to the media, dismissed the students’ claim and said actually the security guards were at the receiving end.

A student said the administration is trying to hide the truth. There are videos of the event in which everything can be seen, said the student, adding that our cameras and mikes were snatched and some students are in talk with the authorities.

According to student sources the university had not given permission to students to hold the event and had urged them to organise it somewhere else. But it is understood that the students did not agree to it and started their programme at the Central Canteen with many students turning up. Things went ugly after the bulls landed on the spot and students were stopped from using mike, claimed a student.

Calls made to Proctor Haroon Sajjad went unattended.

Full version of the university is awaited as it is received it will be updated.
