Demand for restoring students’ union in Jamia raised

Jamia students forum demand for a constitutionally and democratically elected students union which may represent the interest of every single enrolled student of Jamia Millia Islamia, according to student leader Meeran Haider.

Also, he said: “We strongly boycott the committee constituted by the Vice Chancellor to enquire discrepancies in semester examination results & mark sheet declaration.

“1. The students in the committee do not represent all the students of Jamia Millia Islamia. Neither they are elected CR/part of Subjects associations of any department or faculty.

“2. Still we had a little hope that this will have some positive outcome. But our faith broke down on seeing the fact that “Controller of Examination” who himself is responsible for all the sorts of discrepancies have been appointed as member by the VC in the enquiry committee.

“3. There is no students representation from engineering faculty, Faculty of humanities & languages, BDS faculty, faculty of Architecture, faculty of Fine arts and faculty of Education etc.. so it totally violates the rights of collective participation.

“4. This committee totally appears to be a case of planned conspiracy which has defamed the unity of Students.”

For years Jamia has not hold students election with some students peacefully raising the demand from time to time with little positive steps.
