A student of Jamia Millia Islamia has made the university proud by striking Gold at world universities shooting championship in Poland. Akhil Sheron reached the milestone in 10 metre Air Rifle competition.
Jamia has won Gold in team as well individual.
Two Jamia students to represent Indian Universities Shooting Team for
Before travelling to Poland for the event, Jamia had wished them the very best for the World University Championship 2016.
In a release, the university had mentioned: “It is a matter pleasure that two students, namely, Rayyan Rizvi, M.A. in Conflict Analysis and Peace Building – (Previous) and Akhil Sheron, M.B.A. (Previous) from Jamia shall represent Indian Universities Shooting Team for World University Championship that would be held at Poland in September this year.
“Rayyan Rizvi and Akhil Sheron shall represent in Trap and Air Rifle respectively.”
The trials for Trap event was conducted by Punjabi University, Patiala and Air Rifle by Punjab University, Chandigarh where they were selected for World University Championship. Both the international shooters have earlier represented the country in many international competitions.
The news has been welcomed by Jamia alumni and teachers. They have termed the development historic.
“It is really proud moment for the nation and the university. Akhil is a highly talented shooter and has a bright future. We pray that he wins laurels for the country in other international tournaments as well. The credit for his success goes to his coach,” said Jamia alumnus Naseem Ur Rahman.
