Jamia alumnus Shah Rukh Khan receives honorary doctorate for serving Urdu

Jamia Millia Islamia alumnus and Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan was given Honorius Causa for their extraordinary contribution in the promotion of Urdu language and culture by Maulana Azad National Urdu University at its annual convocation on December 26 at about 12.

“Very happy. My mother would have been very happy as I am getting this honour in Hyderabad, her birthplace,” said SRK after getting the honour reported ANI.

According to university release issued earlier, Pranab Mukherjee, President of India, will be the Chief Guest at the Sixth Convocation of Maulana Azad National Urdu University.

About 48,000 students will be awarded degrees.

ELS Narasimhan, Governor of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, will be the Guest of Honour at the event that would be presided over by Zafar Younus Sareshwala, MANUU Chancellor, said the release. Mohammad Mahmood Ali, Deputy Chief Minister of Telangana State, will be the other Guest of Honour.

About 2,885 graduates and post graduates and 276 M. Phil and PhD from various disciplines in regular courses will be awarded degrees. At the same time 44,235 graduates and post graduates from the distance mode would also be given degrees in absentia.

SRK studied at Jamia for a year in Mass Communication Research Centre, according to sources.
