Traffic goes one-way in Jamia Nagar to decongest locality; encroachment intact

Jamia Nagar residents got up this morning with the news: tremor due to earthquake and traffic being made one-way in the area. The first one was felt by a few people as the tremor reportedly was felt early morning around 4.20 am. However, the new traffic route left many stumped.

A day earlier OT.COM had informed its readers about the new route being proposed by local MLA Amanatullah Khan in a move to decongest the locality. Many residents found barricade at Okhla Head and Tikona Park informing them to go straight. Interestingly, for the first time in many years, traffic police men were also seen in the heart of Okhla at Okhla Head manning the traffic getting help from local residents who were seen helping them to avoid any chaos.

This is not for the first time that the route has been made one-way. Earlier such efforts were dashed as a local Rajaya Sabha MP had interfered and residents too had raised concern. It is understood that this time around, the new route will be tested temporarily.

OT reader Ayesha Sultana has a suggestion. “1. Only if people follow up strictly 2. Traffic coming from Batla House turning at Okhla Head going to Tikona Park a difficult task to get going. 3. E rickshaws and Gramin Sevas fall in line too. 4. Remove all unauthorised parked vehicles.”
