Jamia makes top level changes

Prof. Shahid Ashraf, Registrar of Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) has been appointed as Pro-Vice Chancellor of the university, the post which has been lying vacant for over a year, with immediate effect.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Talat Ahmad also appointed Dr. Abdul Malik, Joint Registrar as Officiating Registrar in place of Prof. Ashraf till further orders. Dr. Malik has been with the university for over one and a half decades in key administrative positions.

Prof. Shahid Ashraf has served the university in various capacities over the last several years. He had held the post of Finance Officer for three years from August 2010 before he took over the charge of Registrar of the university in June 2013. Prior to that he was heading the Department of Economics, Jamia Millia Islamia.

Prof. Ashraf has a vast experience of teaching, research and administration. He is also author of several books and research articles published in leading national and international journals. His research interests include industrial and financial economics and employment and development issues, among others. His recent book includes Regional and Multilateral Trade in Developing Countries (ed. with Prof. Shahid Ahmed) Routledge, 2011. He has been Project Director of several research projects with leading government bodies and international agencies.
