Stage set for mega Iftar party; Jamia, AMU V-Cs may turn up

Stage is being set for another Iftar party at the sprawling Dr Ansari Auditorium lawn with preparations in full swing sans security measures seen earlier. Sources said the Iftar party has been thrown by AMU fraternity. Ex-AMU leader Sarwar Iqbal Khan said chances are high that vice chancellors of both Jamia Millia Islamia and Aligarh Muslim University will also turn up.

Official confirmation was hard to be made.

However, a few hours before the Iftar party, preparations were being made with chairs and stage being set to welcome the devotees and others “high-profile” guests. A source said newly-appointed vice chancellor might also turn up. OT.COM could not verify this independently. The Iftar is being held in the background of two earlier controversial Iftars that had grabbed media attention.

It was only a few days ago when students and some local leaders had protested against the ‘RSS Iftar’ on the campus in which RSS leader Indresh Kumar had participated. Students protested and some were even detained to be released later on. On the card that was doing rounds on the social media days before the Iftar, vice chancellor Professor Talat Ahmad name was also on the card as chief guests that upset many students on the campus.

However, he didn’t turn up.

Later on students even sought apology from the V-C, seeking assurance from his side that the university premises should not be given to political players for holding Iftar. And then there was the AAP Iftar party that was attended by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

Though this Iftar did not see any major protest, a local woman leader was detained for raising voice a few metres from the Iftar site against the alleged demolition of a mosque in Sonia Vihar, said sources.
