A PhD scholar from Department of Sociology received a letter today notifying that her registration has been cancelled with effect from 7-11-2017, according to a reliable source.
The letter cites no reason for cancellation neither has the PhD scholar received any prior notification with this regard, said the source.
PhD scholar Dhrupadi Ghosh belongs to the student organisation DISSC that has been raising students’ issues in university. Recently four students from the same organisation were given show cause notices for holding a cultural event on the campus a few days ago without seeking “permission” from the university official.
The students, including another girl student, were also asked to explain about posting alleged “anti-Jamia message” on Facebook.
Dhrupadi has been vocal about several issues on the campus like payment of dues to (contract) workers, and attack on female students by male university guards (scuffling between students and university bull) and police entering the campus without permission, said a release issued by DISSC.
To get Vice Chancellor Professor Talat Ahmad’s response on the issue, OT.COM sent him SMS and got no response till the filing of the report.
When it is received, the university’s version will be uploaded.
The letter sent to Head, Department Sociology, Supervisor Dr Neshat Quaisar and others reads: “In light of the office order…issued by the Registrar, JMI regarding the cancellation of Dhrupadi Ghosh from PhD in Sociology, the admission of Dhrupadi Ghosh is being cancelled from PhD in Sociology w.e.f. 07.11.2017.”
A source said board interviewed her and she has been the student for years.
