This is not for the first time that Jamia Millia Islamia administration has surrendered to students’ demand.
The University administration accepted the demand of protesting students and agreed to hold the formation of Students Council, said organisers of the peaceful protest on the campus. The vice Chancellor also promised to the protesting students that he will discuss the process of restoration of Students’ Union in the executive Council of University administration.
Earlier, in the day students organised a peaceful protest demanding the rejection of unconstitutional and dummy form of students representative ‘Students Council’.
The electoral college of this students Council is limited to the Class Representatives (CRs) only. Apart from it there are various anti students clauses in this proposed students Council .
Hundreds of students gathered at Students Union Hall today and marched towards the Vice Chancellor office demanding rejection of students Council and restoration of a constitutional and democratic students union.
The protesting students submitted a memorandum with 3500 students signature,said a student leader, who shared a video and this report with the OT.COM.
However, university officials could not be reached for their comments on the issue.
It was at about 1 pm when several students gathered at university’s union building that for years has been clocked as the university stopped holding elections on the campus since 2006. Students took out a peaceful rally across the campus. Jamia Vice Chancellor
