The UP Assembly elections 2017 is a crucial one for not only political parties but Jamiaiites too as four of its alumni are trying their luck with some making their debut.
If two Jamia alumni, Shah Alam and Kamal Akhtar are trying their luck for the second time, Naimul Hassan and Md Shoaib are contending for the first time.
It is too early to jump to any conclusion, according to Nasir Sultan Qazi, who has been following these alumni career graph.
Shah Alam, sitting MLA, is contesting on BSP ticket from Mubarakpur, Azamgarh. Kamal Akhtar, sitting MLA, is trying his luck for the second time from Hasanpur, Amroha on SP ticket. Both of them are up against anti-incumbency but chances of their win are high, according to sources.
Naimul Hassan is SP’s candidate from Noorpur, Bijnor and Md Shoaib is contesting on Kisan Mazdoor Party (KMP) from Amroha.
Shoaib has been in politics for long since he started his political career in Jamia as its students’ union president. And it is only this time around that he succeeded in getting ticket from the KMP.
Another Jamia alumnus Badruddin Qureshi has missed this time around in getting ticket. Sources said he too was a strong contender but his seat got swallowed in Congress and SP alliance.
A turncoat, he had recently joined Congress. In the Delhi Assembly election too, Badruddin was trying to get ticket on AAP but lost in the race to Amanatullah Khan on Okhla, who won a record margin from the locality.
Then Sayeed Khan’s wife too had tried to get ticket from AAP but was not successful.
