Independence Day was celebrated with great fervor across India, including Okhla. In the locality residents celebrate the I-Day by unfurling the tricolour in several places. Many residents were glued to their TV set in the morning.
Several institutes celebrated the I-Day. In Batla House students of a religious school took out a rally in the locality. One such programme was held in an institute in Jamia Nagar. The programme was started with Qirat recited by Iqra. Reshma anchored the event and also sung patriotic songs.
“Shagufta Meenakshi, Gulshan, Afifa, Munira, Shadiya, Saniya and Tuba participated in a debate on discrimination. Zia Choudhary and Dr Azeem were special guests of the event. Choreographer Deepak M Chaudhary, social worker Shama Khan and Tuba Khan were also present in the event,” said the organizer of the event. Institute of Learning Mania managed the event.
Moreover, since morning shops were seen selling items, like kites, related with I-Day celebrations. Several people were seen rushing towards shops to lay their hands on kites that they flew in the evening. The sky in the locality was covered with kites.
Bangles with tricolour shades were also sold in the locality. I-Day celebration also took place in Jamia Millia Islamia.
