Imam Mahdi row: Ex-Okhla MLA Asif Md Khan speak (video). As a large number of people turned up at Jamia Nagar police station on Sunday at 5:30 pm to protest peacefully for the arrest of youths who were beaten up for spreading wrong information about Islam in a local mosque, a few local leaders too turned up.
Former Okhla MLA Asif Md Khan too arrived at the police station and tried to get the situation resolved. He told OKHLATIMES that the top police official has assured him and the protesters that action would be taken against the accused. Also, he said: “From sometime such things have been going on in the locality. Some youths are trying to influence others by telling them that Imam Mahdi has arrived. This is something that hurts feeling of residents. Ramzan is coming and there should be peace in the locality.
The incident had taken place in a mosque in Batla House after Zohar prayer, according to residents. After which announcements were made from the mosques urging residents to turn up at the police station to protest peacefully against such things, demanding action against the accused.
The situation was handled properly as no untoward incidents happened, said residents. What is worrying for many is that the Imam Mahdi group has succeeded in spreading its tentacles in the locality by influencing youths in mosques and outside.
