Video: Crackdown on mushrooming illegal hoardings in Okhla.
Officials of civic agencies today launched an operation against mushrooming illegal hoardings in Okhla, according to residents. An eyewitness said some officials with police landed up at Shaheen Bagh-Sarita Vihar road and started removing illegal hoardings.
Later on they moved towards Kalindi Kunj road, said the resident.
Illegal hoardings and posters have mushroomed in Jamia Nagar with public property being defaced all across. Many residents have welcomed the crackdown by officials. “People deface walls and public property in the locality with posters and banners hanging all around. Moreover, even metro pillars are not spared which is really shocking. If you walk across Tikona Park you can see how the wall has been plastered with posters and painting. It is a welcome move and officials should come into Jamia Nagar and Batla House to carry forward the operation against mushrooming of illegal hoardings in the locality and posters,” said a resident requesting anonymity.
Despite the defacement law, many don’t care and go ahead to deface public property just to further their business interest in the area.
In March 2017, following instructions from the state election commission, the three civic bodies had removed illegal political hoardings then in national Capital.
