A two-day International Conference on Health and Wellbeing: An Interdisciplinary Inquiry is being organised by the Department of Psychology, Jamia Millia Islamia during 22-23 March.
The Conference was inaugurated today by Vice Chancellor Prof Talat Ahmad.
Prof Ahmad stressed on the need for studying the theme from inter- disciplinary perspective. Prof M G Shahnawaz, welcomed the guests on behalf of the Department and outlined the need to study health and wellbeing from various perspectives.
Dr Sheema Aleem, the Organising Secretary of the Conference, elaborated on the theme of the conference and its sub-themes. She also pointed out that since the theme is the thrust area under the DRS programme, the conference and the publications brought out, were all very relevant and topical.
Prof Girishwar Mishra, the Vice Chancellor of Mahatma Gandhi International Hindi University was the guest of honour at the inaugural. Prof Mishra elaborated on the interface between health and wellbeing and pointed out the importance of ‘wellness’ of life.
Prof Imrana Qadeer, an acknowledged authority on public health, and the keynote speaker, elaborated that health and wellbeing had differential meanings across cultures and time zones and any interdisciplinary research had to take into account that definition of health and wellbeing would also vary. The Vice Chancellor and the other dignitaries released two volumes on Health and Wellbeing of the full papers of the conference.
The conference has seen an overwhelming response with more than 250 scientific papers being presented by researchers from across the country. One of the highlights of the conference is the invited lectures by eminent psychologists, practitioners etc on various themes of the conference and poster presentations by young and upcoming researchers, said Dr Sheema Aleem, Organising Secretary.
