Biryani is in news. A few weeks ago it had grabbed headlines after reports had surfaced about beef inspections were launched in Haryana. Before the dust could settled down another report has surfaced of how a man was arrested for allegedly extorting money from biryani sellers in Greater Noida.
Local police swung into action after biryani seller complained to police.
“There are several roadside biryani shops in Satyana, Haldauni and other areas of Greater Noida. The accused posed as an official of the authority. He used to visit the shop and demand Rs 200-300 from each shop,” said Ajay Yadav, SHO Sector Eco Tech – 3 Police Station.
Police said that on Tuesday morning, the accused visited the shops and started collecting ‘hafta’ from the biryani sellers, reported TOI. “This created ruckus as some of them refused to pay. One shopkeeper paid Rs 200 while he insisted on others to pay. A biryani seller told the accused to wait at the shop till he returned from home with the money,” said police.
After the arrest, police interrogated the accused. “He armed himself with the gun and flaunted in the area. He then decided to extort local biryani sellers. The accused was produced in court and sent to judicial custody,” said police.
A school dropout, the accused has been identified as one Manoj Kumar.
