Topic: Need for a New Lynching Law? Speaker: Senior Advocate Sanjay Hegde
Sanjay R Hegde is a Senior Advocate at the Supreme Court of India. He began his illustrious career back in 1989. During this period he worked on several high profile cases, appeared for the Government of Indian as well as for the State of Karnataka and thereafter focused on private practice. He has frequently engaged in legal journalism including appearing on television panels and writing as a columnist for newspapers. But today, Sanjay has become the voice for civil rights. In the backdrop of rise in mob lynching, voices in the civil society have come together to demand a strict legislation against any such barbarism. Sanjay Hegde is associated with National Campaign Against Mob Lynching, which had released a draft law named Manav Suraksha Kanoon (MASUKA).

This initiative aims at bridging the gap between thinkers working in various fields such as media, culture, heritage, law, science, arts, human rights, gender equality, films, music, etc. The syncretic culture in any democratic society is created on the bedrock of negotiation between different domains of human activity, intellectual distillation and the thought processes prevalent among common citizens. Jamia collective strives to enhance and crystallize this social contract.
