Greenery gets a push in Okhla

It is late night on Thursday and people are sleeping save a few who are on their way to their house from office or some youths hanging around shops. On the Jamia Millia Islamia road a PWD worker is seen spraying water on new plants that have been put on the divider under metro pillars, according to eyewitnesses.

A few residents returning home from late night work said greenery got a push in the locality. Though Jamia has a sprawling green campus, trees are missing on the road divider. It was a few days ago when mud and fertilizer were dumped on the divider giving enough hint of plantation, said a resident, adding that and then one day passersby saw several saplings being planted on the divider and then on the night time, PWD worker was seen spraying water.

Residents have welcome the greenery move and said as metro work is near completion chances are high that the beautification campaign, including planting saplings, might be extended up to Batla House to Shaheen Bagh under metro poles.

However, for many residents the biggest worry is that how some people, including politicians, activists and coaching owners, are defacing the metro pillars by putting posters on them from time to time.
