Has graveyard woes of Okhlaiites addressed? This and other questions are being talked about in the locality since posters surfaced in the locality in which a leader is making claim that Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has agreed to give land for graveyard.
The poster carries photos of Yadav and Kamal Akhtar a formerly Jamia Millia Islamia Students’ Union (JMISU) president and a minister in UP government. For long residents have been seeking more land for graveyard in the locality with population increasing manifold. Right now there are only two graveyards in the locality and that too in Batla House.
However, for more than two decades one graveyard is non-functional putting extra pressure on the old Batla House graveyard. “It is too early to jump to any conclusion. Let’s see how things shape up,” said a resident on the condition anonymity, adding that for years the issue of graveyard has been surfacing in the locality during election time.
In a local WhatsApp group a resident said it could just be a move to win hearts and minds of Muslims of Jamia Nagar before the Uttar Pradesh elections as large number of residents are from the poll-bound State.
In such a situation it would be interesting to see how things shape up in coming few days as the poster claims that the graveyard may come up at Number 6 thokar on the irrigation land.
A new graveyard has been build a few metres from Okhla in Noida.
