When posters surfaced in Okhla a few weeks ago about the Akhilesh Government giving land in Okhla for a graveyard in Abul Fazal Enclave there was jubilation and residents welcomed the move.
However, there are fears that the change of guard might change this.
The buzz among skeptics in the locality is that things might be overturned by a PIL and they are tight lipped.
However, SP supporters, like Nasir Sultan Qazi, are hopeful that nothing like this will happen as the new dispensation has said nothing on the issue.
“Bodies are being laid to rest and the graveyard has become operational. Right now some 12 residents have been buried there so such thinking is unwarranted as paper works have already been completed,” he said.
For years graveyard has been a big issue in the locality. There are only two graveyards in Okhla and that too in Batla House. With the population explosion, many residents for years had been demanding for new place for graveyard will little positive impact.
From time to time graveyard had become a political issue. However, things were laid to rest after the Akhilesh government provided UP land in Okhla for the use of graveyard, bring major relief to people.
