It was in 1990 when a government school was opened in Batla House and since then the population of Jamia Nagar has increased manifold. Ironically, no government run school has been opened since then only highlighting governments’ apathy.
“It is really shocking to know that the area has continued to be neglected by several governments. With increase in population there is an immediate need for a new quality school. Shockingly since then many new leaders have surfaced promising to change the fate of the locality but nothing serious has happened since then. It is not only the government that needs to be blamed but local leaders too who continue to take residents for a ride by continuing to raise emotional issues,” said Shahzad Khan, an educationist.
This is not to say that private schools have not mushroomed. But many residents are not satisfied with these schools as they are found to be claustrophobic and run form a flat.
“The locality needs a quality school. Activists should raise the issue with the AAP government that too has been found of doing little for the locality despite getting overwhelming support from residents,” said another resident, who is bothered with the pathetic education infrastructure in the locality.
