Some goat sellers in Jamia Nagar struggle to keep their animals together at night with cases of theft being reported from time to time.
Farooque Ahmad, an Uttar Pradesh resident, is camping in Jamia Nagar these days to do business of selling goats. “The biggest challenge is to keep the animal intact at night. Last year, my two goats were stolen. It was at 1 am when I slept and after 30 minutes when I got up I saw two goats gone. It was the handiwork of some locals,” said Ahmad, who sleeps at Okhla Head with his goats.
This is not the only case. A resident said last year he came to know that his neighbour’s goat was stolen. Keeping this in mind, many residents prefer purchasing goats for sacrifice on last day of the festival or just a few days ahead.
“As many residents live in flats, they prefer buying goats the last day. Moreover, there are also fears that where to keep the goat. If you keep it in the common platform like at parking spot chances are high that drug addicts roaming around the locality as robbers will take the animal away,” said a resident, requesting not to be name.
