The staff of Police Station Okhla busted an interstate gang of people involved in selling stolen mobile phones after erasing IMEI numbers and recovered 735 stolen costly smart mobile phones, 3 stolen cars and equipments/accessories used in flashing and erasing IMEI of mobile phones from them.
Police acted against the accused after getting a tip-off that three people who belong to Mewat (Rajasthan) are coming to Delhi in a stolen WagonR car to receive stolen mobile phones, said officials.
On the basis of information, a trap was laid near underpass at Okhla Industrial Area and three accused persons namely Shakil, Aslam and Rinku were arrested and stolen Wagon R 18 smart mobile phones were recovered, said police.
During sustained interrogation, the accused one Gaurav Mittal disclosed that he used to change IMEI numbers of mobile phone from Gaffar Market, Karol Bagh with the help of one shopkeeper/engineer and also used to flash the mobile phones for cracking password FRP (pattern lock) for opening and resetting the mobile phones to bring them back into the working condition/usable mode, police said.
Several cases of mobile snatching have been reported from Okhla too where bikers have been found to snatch mobile from residents and flee from the spot.
