Gang of juveniles involved in stealing bikes busted; 6 held, 13 two-wheeler recovered

Police today claimed to have busted a gang of juveniles who were involved in auto thefts of high end bikes and scooties and recovered 13 two-wheelers. Six apprehended juveniles (aged between 14 and 17 years) told police during interrogation that they used to commit auto-thefts for performing stunts on road.

The West District Police recently nabbed two juveniles with a stolen Scooty from near Tagore Garden Metro station, said Vijay Kumar, DCP (West). Also, they told police that after stealing the vehicles, they used to go on joy rides and then used to abandon the vehicles in narrow streets of nearby areas to prevent themselves from being identified.

Following complaint, a team was constituted that closely studied the pattern of thefts and MV thefts in the area and observed that vehicles were mainly stolen between1 am and 5 am. The information was further developed through CCTV footages, in which auto-lifters were captured while in act. The CCTVs were minutely watched and whole area of PS Rajouri Garden was duly barricaded in night from all the entry/exit gates and only two points of entry/exit were left which were suitably manned by police officials.

The efforts yielded positive results when a scooty driven by two Juveniles was stopped for checking at Tagore Garden Metro Station by police team. On being asked to produce the documents of scooty, both tried to mislead the police party but at last broke down and confessed their involvement in several thefts along with their associates.

Following which three more juveniles were also apprehended and three scooties stolen from the area of Rajouri Garden were recovered from their possession.

Further investigation is underway.
