Gang robbing auto-rickshaw passengers busted; 2 arrested

A gang of robbers wanted in case of robbery in auto at Noida Link Road has been busted with the arrest of Izhaar and Sonu of Loni, police said.

The story goes like this: on April 21, two brothers: Nafis and Hafiz arrived in Delhi from Lakhimpur Kheri around 2 am and hired an auto for Badarpur border on sharing basis.

Two brothers Nafis and Hafiz from UP had come to Delhi from their village in a private bus service at around 2 am and hired an auto later for Badarpur border on sharing basis.

The auto was already having a passenger and another passenger got into the TSR after some distance. Later, both brothers were shown knife by the co-passengers and driver of auto and told them to handover their belongings when both Nafis and Hafiz resisted the robbery attempt, they were beaten by the robbers and threw them from the auto and deliberately took auto over the head of deceased victim in which victim Hafiz succumbed to the injury.

Later, on the statements of Nafis, the case was registered at PS Pandav Nagar immediately and investigation was ordered to nab all the accused.

The case seemed to be blind as the route of the auto was not clear, Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Omvir Singh said.

After investigating the case, Bhura alias Izhar (30) and Sonu (22) were then nabbed from Loni. The third accused Deva alias Dinesh is admitted in GTB Hospital with head injuries he suffered during a quarrel. He will be arrested after he is discharged from the hospital, Singh said.

“The gang used to operate between 1 AM and 6 AM. They target passengers who seem to be less familiar to Delhi, specially people coming from Uttar Pradesh in private buses,” the DCP said.

To attract passengers, the gang would always quote less fare than the usual and then after boarding them used to rob their victims near secluded places or near end of flyovers and then throw them off the vehicle, Singh said.
