“I was inside my house and was about to go out. It was dark and I suddenly heard the sound of gunshot. I came out and saw two youths on a bike wearing helmets speeding away. I informed police about the incident. Police came to my house and initially told me that I must have mistaken a bike’s silencer for a gun shot. But I was sure that it was gunshot. Later police found two spent cartridges from there,” Khan, who represented Okhla as an MLA in 2009, told OT.COM.

When contacted, he said he initially didn’t inform even his close friends about the incident and he is pained with the increase in criminal activities in the locality.

Police has filed an FIR against unknown people, said Khan, adding that this was a second attempt on his life in the last three weeks.

Police said they have registered a case and are probing the identity of the gunmen, reported HT, adding that DCP South East, Romil Baniya said police have registered an FIR at the Jamia Nagar police station.

It has been reported that the authorities are going to scan the CCTV footage to prober the identity of the attackers.

This is not first incident of firing in the locality on Monday night. Reports had surfaced of gunshots at Khalilluah Masjid. Moreover, Khan said a man was also murdered on chand night during Eid in the locality.

Three weeks ago, Khan had alleged that some people had fired at him when he had gone to an elderly woman’s house in Zakir Nagar to settle a property dispute.

Khan told HT that criminal elements from western UP have made their base in Jamia Nagar.

“Many have fled their homes in UP and continue to run their nefarious operations. The Delhi police must be strict and ensure that Jamia does not become a habitat for criminals. I also heard that minutes before I was attacked last night, there was a fight between two groups in Zakir Nagar. At least 14 shots were fired,” he told HT.
