When is Eid al Fitr 2016 on July 6 or 7? Singapore to celebrate on July 6

As Ramzan enters into its last phase, the question that is being talked about the most in India: When is Eid al Fitr 2016 on July 6 or 7?

Okhla-based Islamic scholar Maulana Waris Mazhari told OKHLATIMES that most probably chances are that it would be on July 7. It is too early to jump to conclusion as a lot will depend on moon sighting, he said.

Despite this devotees are apprehensive and the last thing that they want this year is to avoid Eid al Fitr 2016 on two days as it has happened earlier. With the weather not good in India, anything can happen.

Moreover, people would be looking towards Saudi Arabia. Report emanating from Singapore pointed out that Eid al Fitr is to be celebrated on July 6. An announcement regarding this has been made by Majlis Ugama Islam Singapore on Monday which is yet to receive confirmed report of moon sighting in the country.

Dr Mohamed Fatris Bakaram Mufti, Republic of Singapore said in a statement: “According to astronomical calculations, the crescent for the month of Syawal did not appear during sunset today as it has set earlier than the sun. This signifies that tomorrow will be the end of 30 days of Ramadan. As such, I am pleased to declare that the first day of Syawal for the year 1437 Hijrah falls on Wednesday, 6th July 2016.”

All told, in Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar and other Arab States, the moon-sighting committees are expected to meet Monday. Till then it is better to keep our finger crossed!!!
