DU’s Ramjas College clash: Jamia Nagar resident at centre of attraction

Delhi University’s Ramjas College witnessed violent clashes between students group, according to reports. And at the centre of attraction is a Jamia Nagar resident Umar Khalid, a JNU student. It is understood that the clash was the result of cancellation of a seminar invite to Khalid and Shehla Rashid.

It was on Tuesday when RSS-backed ABVP had locked down the Ramjas college seminar room and pelted stones in protest against an invitation to JNU students to address a seminar saying they are “anti-nationals”.

And on Wednesday the ABVP and Left-affiliated AISA clashed over the issue. It is to be noted that Khalid was charged with sedition last year over an event held on JNU campus where alleged anti-India slogans were raised.

Upset by the cancellation of the event some AISA members and teachers decided to march to Maurice Nagar police station seeking action against ABVP members for alleged vandalism. However, they were not allowed to march and allegedly locked them inside Ramjas College, according to PTI report. Things went out of hand when AISA members entered inside the premises to “rescue the captives”.

“The students have been locked inside and those trying to come out were beaten up by ABVP goons. We tried to barge in inside the college to rescue the students but they are attacking us as well. They have come prepared with hockey sticks,” an AISA member said.

Reports have also surfaced of how journalists were also attacked.
