Govt approves construction of 35,000 flats for EWS categoryOT, 0 IST Okhla Times News Service Around 35,000 flats are coming up for economic weaker section (EWS) category at Pooth Khurd, Tikri and Savda Ghevra in New Delhi. This has been confirmed by Delhi Urban Development Minister Dr. A.K. Walia. While briefing reporters, the minister stated the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB) has given a green signal for the construction of these flats under JNNURM Scheme. Besides, Walia also chaired a meeting to review the progress of relocation/rehabilitation of JJ clusters in the Capital city. The meeting was attended by CEO (DUSIB) Amar Nath and other senior officers of DSIIDC and UD Department. The minister informed reporters that the DSIIDC will construct 18,760 flats at Pooth Khurd with an estimated cost of Rs 1020 crore. Another 8600 flats will be constructed at Tikri by the DSIIDC with an estimated cost of Rs 419 crore.
The DUSIB will take up construction of 7620 flats at Savda Ghevra-III with an estimated cost of Rs 408 crore. According to senior officials, the construction will be completed within 18 months after award of work. Walia instructed the DSIIDC and DUSIB to ensure construction within stipulated period.
