Compassionate care of elderly, women

The second International Congress on Gerontology and Geriatric Medicine 2012 (ICGGM 2012) for the advancement of care of older people in India is to be held at University College of Medical Sciences, New Delhi from 25-26 February. The conference will also be organized at All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi from 27-29 February.
The event will focus on many events including women’s issues beyond the reproductive age, end of life care and dying with dignity, sarcopenia and the frailty syndrome, compassionate care of older people during emergency and disaster situations and proteomics, biomarkers and nanobiogenomics.
Besides these focus themes the conference would also have sessions on ageism, age discrimination, elder abuse, depression, social isolation, dementia, cognitive impairment, incontinence, falls, diabetes, andro-pause, developing a career and research in Gerontology and Geriatric Medicine, according to Dr Ashish Goel, organizing secretary, Lecturer, medicine, UCMS and GTB Hospital, Delhi.
Individual sessions and day programmes would be of interest to social workers, psychologists, anthropologists, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, dieticians and nutritionists besides doctors, nurses and other allied health care workers.
Several competitions including research presentations, new idea presentations, clinic-pathological cases, journal clubs and photography exhibition have been scheduled at the Congress. Attractive awards and bursaries are planned for winners, claims Dr Goel, who is also Country Chair, International Network on Prevention of Elder Abuse.
