Congress candidate from Sarita Vihar ward has won the election. She was the sitting councillor from Sarita Vihar. She has won with a good margin, according to data available online on NDTV.
AAP’s Juhi Khan stood the second position with BJP following her, claimed the data.
30-year-old Nitu got 12,665 votes with Juhi Khan staying at close second bagging 8,517 votes and BJP’s Sunita Singh getting 6,674 votes, according to available online data.
By winning the seat for the second time, Nitu has shown the way how to beat anti-incumbency. On the other hand Juhi Khan, who runs a chain of schools in Okhla, and before joining the AAP was with the Congress, failed to sail through in her political debut.
During the election campaign like other candidates, she had adopted several measures to woo voters. The win was celebrated in Congress camp in Sarita Vihar. Moreover, win has also revived political fortunes of Asif Md Khan, who a few years ago was defeated with a record margin during the Assembly elections, against Amanatullah Khan.
If this election was a litmus test of Amanatullah’s popularity, it was also a fight for Asif Md Khan’s survival. With Congress retaining two seats in Okhla’s wards Sarita Vihar and Zakir Nagar, it has proved itself to be a stronger position in the Muslim-dominated locality.
