Cleanliness drive in Okhla begins

A drive started on Wednesday against the encroachment on Abul Fazal Nala Road continues on Thursday as well with workers seen removing mound of dust gathered on roadside, according to residents.

On Wednesday, the Okhla MLA with his supporters was seen getting the encroached land cleaned up and parked cars being towed away by the concerned authorities.

Nabeel Khan wrote: “….road needs to be repaired there too big time!! We have been assured that the work for the road will soon begin and something would be done for the garbage dump as well…”

An employee who was overseeing the work of removing roadside dust said the work was being carried out by the Delhi Government’s flood department. Also, to buttress his claim he showed his identity card.

Encroachment is a big issue in the locality with most parts of the road being gobbled up by workshops and eateries. Moreover, it is common to see car parked illegally on roadsides across the locality. Last year residents still remember how an anti-encroachment drive launched by activists had hit the roadblock getting no support from anywhere.

Unfortunately, a few activists were even beaten up at Abul Fazal Enclave by goons. Later on the activists, who included a few AAP disgruntled members, gave up the anti-encroachment drive claiming that the representative was not cooperating with them, an allegation that OKHLATIMES was unable to authenticate independently. Shocking one activist even claimed that he was allegedly getting threatening claims to end up the anti-encroachment drive.
